Gable is perfect for wearing all year round - layered with dresses and cardigans on chilly mornings, or worn on its own with 3/4 skinny jeans or a high-waisted skirt à la Audrey in spring. Gable is a stylish weekend basic that can also be dressed up and added to your office outfit rotation.

What we think: This is a classic Breton top that you'll make over and over again. Who doesn't need another striped top in their lives?!

Suggested fabrics: Look for medium to heavy weight knit fabrics with good stretch across the grain. Knits should have 40% stretch with good recovery. View 3 sleeve cuffs can be made with the same fabric as the body or contrasting fabric.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern matching and directional prints.

View 1: 150 cm (60") wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 1 m (1.09 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 1.1 m (1.2 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 1.75 m (1.91 yd).

View 2: 150 cm (60") wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 1.5 m (1.64 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 1.5 m (1.64 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 2 m (2.18 yd).

View 3: 150 cm (60") wide fabric: Sizes 6 - 14, 1.25 m (1.36 yd) // Sizes 16 - 24, 1.25 m (1.36 yd) // Sizes 26 - 34, 1.75 m (1.91 yd) // Contrast cuff (all sizes), 0.75 m (0.82 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A/B and C/D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C/D and E/F cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.

To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.

Notions: Matching thread; ballpoint or stretch sewing machine needle; 30 cm (11.5") length of 1.5 cm (5/8") wide stay tape (twill, ribbon, clear elastic, etc.) // Optional: 10 cm of decorative ribbon or lace.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (35 pages for sizes 6-24, 42 pages for sizes 16-34); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets for sizes 6-24, 2 sheets for sizes 16-34). This pattern has layers so you can print only the size(s) you need.

JLH Gable Top pink version

This is my fifth version. It's besides my own drafted T-shirt pattern and the Paris Top my most used pattern to make a T-shirt. This version is made using only an overlocker. The flatlock hem finishing adds a greta looking detail and isn’t something one can easily find in a store. http://www.sewingalacarte.nl/2019/03/jlh-gable-top-pink-version/

My favourite jersey top pattern!

This is my all time favourite jersey pattern, I have made three already and have two more in the works! I love the slash neckline, I think it really elevates a basic t-shirt into something a bit more special. I like the way that it is constructed, by folding the neckline inside and that also making the shoulder seams. I think that it is a neat finish and is fun to make and easy to wear! Highly recommend!
