The perfect sweatshirt

This really is a fantastic pattern. It has a great size range (00 - 40) and comes with the choice of standard bust piece or a full bust piece, the latter of which is perfect for my measurements. The princess seams give a great fit to the front and back bodice and the raglan sleeves have a dart at their centre, which also makes a big improvement to the way raglan sleeves usually fit.

The pockets are an excellent size and sit nice and flush, with their lower edge being caught into the bottom band as part of the construction.

I love the coziness of this pattern but that it isn’t your usual oversized / boxy sweatshirt. It has a really nice amount of ease.

It sews up really easily, with the usual top notch instructions from Itch to Stitch. Once you have constructed the pockets, the rest of it comes together quickly.  You don’t have to use grommets for the collar / hoodie as buttonholes are another option, but I love the look the grommets give to the finished top. All in all, highly recommended! In fact this is the second one I made in quick succession. I have photos of the first one and some more of the second one in my blog post about this and some other lockdown friendly patterns:  https://tailoredbykate.wordpress.com/2021/02/17/musings-on-sewing-in-a-lockdown-plus-ten-recommended-patterns/

Lamma Sweatshirt

I bought this pattern as soon as it was released.  I have made a lot of hoodies and sweatshirts this winter, and while they are lovely comfy garments, this pattern appealed to me as it had a bit more shape than your standard boxy sweatshirt, due to the princess seams.  It also had a lot of options for colour blocking, and full bust option.  The only concern I had was the neckline as whether you opt for the hood or cowl neck version, there is a lot of fabric at the neck and I dislike fabric around my neck.  So I opted to draft a neckband for it instead, and I think it worked out really well.

The pattern instructions are very clear, and the pockets in this garment are lovely, built into the princess seam lines rather than the standard hoodie kangaroo pocket.  This was my first time using an Itch to Stitch pattern but I wouldn't hesitate to make another, and I shall definitely be making more of these sweatshirts too.
