Suggested fabrics: Use light to medium-light weight woven fabric with or without stretch. Shirting, broadcloth, lightweight denim, chambray, linen and rayon challis are good choices.

Fabric requirements:

60" (150 cm) wide fabric: Shirt, 1 - 1 3/8 yd (90 - 120 cm) // Dress with sash, 1 3/8 - 2 1/8 yd (120 - 190 cm) // With long sleeves, add 3/4 yd (60 cm) // With 3/4 sleeves, add 5/8 yd (50 cm) // With short sleeves, add 3/8 yd (30 cm) // With flare sleeves, add 3/8 - 3/4 yd (40 - 70 cm).

44" (115 cm) wide fabric: 1 1/4 - 1 7/8 yd (120 - 170 cm) // Dress with sash, 2 1/8 - 2 3/4 yd (190 - 250 cm) // With long sleeves, add 3/4 yd (60 - 70 cm) // With 3/4 sleeves, add 5/8 yd (50 - 60 cm) // With short sleeves, add 3/8 yd (30 cm) // With flare sleeves, add 3/4 yd (60 - 70 cm).

Sizing: US 00 – 20 (approx. UK 8 – 22). Please check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

A note from the designer about bust cup options: To determine your cup size, subtract the circumference of your over bust from the circumference of the fullest part of your bust. If the rounded difference is 1″ (2.5 cm), use A cup; 2″ (5 cm), use B cup; 3″ (7.5 cm), use C cup; 4″ (10 cm), use D cup; 5″ (12.5 cm), use DD cup.

Notions: Lightweight woven or weft insertion interfacing; five 1/2" (1.25 cm) buttons for the shirt, or eight 1/2" (1.25 cm) buttons for the dress; additional two 1/2" (1.25 cm) buttons for the long sleeve option.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (89 pages, but you only need to print the pages for your cup size); A0 copy shop pattern (7 sheets, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup size) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.

Lovely pattern to make

Lovely pattern to work with, will definitely make it again. I’m a UK 16 and after measuring I made up in size 12 with the dd bust adjustment which fitted perfectly. Fabric is a linen from Fabric Godmother.

Bonn Dress - nice clear instructions

BONN DRESS by Itch to Stitch

I desperately wanted to make a dress with flounce sleeves and found myself buying this ItS pattern because it advertised clear instructions with words and pictures (pics are important to me).  Being a pear shape, a shirt dress with lots of ease was going to be a challenge and I think there is a lot of value in toiling in the pattern.  I did take me quite a while toiling to make the adjustments that I needed but I think that's because my of my figure rather than the pattern.  I sewed most of the dress closed to compensate for how often I cross my legs and it still looks closed.

Things I loved about the pattern:

,Fabulous instructions that were detailed and included words and pics.  There has been a lot of effort put in here and it really shows.
,That there is a facebook group with an active membership for ItS patterns. I felt comforting knowing that help would be available if I really struggled.
,The different sleeve length options
,Cute looking collar.

Things I wished were different about the pattern / my make (please note a lot of these are more about me rather than the lovely pattern):

,The collar was a struggle because it was much bigger than the dress it was being applied to. I probably stretched it at some point so be careful with this.
,I found the labelling of the sleeve options confusing when comparing the pattern pieces to pictures of makes I found online.  This meant I made the 3/4 sleeve and tried to attach the flounce to it.  So many pics of this shirt / dress show the flounce lower on the arm than the pattern makes it.  A bit frustrating as I had to redraft the 3/4 sleeve to make it fit in the first place and then realised I had made the wrong sleeve for the flounce I wanted.
,There way a lot more room in the dress than I expected when toiling- it's not a fitted style.  For my shape, when I made the size for my measurements, I was swimming in it.  I actually ended up making a 4 sizes smaller in the end and still needed some darts to get it fitted well to suit my pear body shape.  I don't think others would need to do this.

Note, these aren't criticisms of the pattern, just my observations of the pattern and how it related to my make and body shape.  I'm really thrilled with the result and would happily make it again.  I made the dress in a thin shirting and next time would make it in a more drapey fabric to appreciate the flounce more.

I would recommend the pattern :)

Avatar Bonn Shirt & Dress

I LOVE this shirt - I had been looking for a loosish but not boxey shirt and this is perfect! I used the cup sizes and I've never made such an effortless shirt!

I made it one size up through the waist to give a blousier feel, and didn't add the top button. I've so far made two and worn them CONSTANTLY! I have plans to make many more!
