Buy the Ormond Coat sewing pattern from In the Folds. The Ormond Coat is a timeless addition to your autumn/winter wardrobe, designed to remain a staple for years to come. Its boxy silhouette, raglan sleeves, and convertible collar offer a classic yet versatile style. The sizes G-P pattern has a bust dart in the armhole to give soft shaping through the bust without losing the boxy shape. The coat has a front button closure, front and back neck facings for a clean finish that also provides structure, and a hanging loop on the back facing.
View A is calf-length with welt pockets and a centre back vent for ease of movement. The coat is sewn with bias bound seams for a durable and stunning finish. The welt pockets are finished with French seams.
View B is a chore coat that finishes at the high hip. It has distinctive asymmetrical patch pockets. It is sewn with flat felled seams to ensure durability for years to come. Consider using contrasting topstitching to make a feature of the seam lines.
Sewing level: Intermediate
This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:
– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?
– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?
Note if purchasing copy shop printing: The pattern will show both the cutting lines (in black) and stitching lines (in pale grey). Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.
Suggested fabrics: Mid to heavy weight outerwear fabrics such as cotton canvas, waxed canvas, cotton moleskin, rigid denim, corduroy and heavyweight cotton drill.
Wool coating and boiled wool can also be used, but keep in mind that the coat is unlined. For some, this may be uncomfortable, or make it tricker to slide the coat on and off. The sleeves can be underlined with a smooth fabric to help with this.
