Buy the Baby/Child/Adult Fairbank Hat sewing pattern from In the Folds. Wherever you are in the world, whatever the season, a hat is something you should always have within arm's reach!

Fairbank is a versatile hat pattern with two brim options: regular for a classic bucket hat look, and wide for extra coverage and style. Views A and C are designed for warm weather and can be made reversible to get two looks in one. View B has been adapted to suit bulky fabrics like sherpa, making it perfect for cool weather.

As an added bonus, the pattern comes in a range of sizes, so you can make one for every member of your family!

Sewing level: Confident beginner

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: The pattern will show both the cutting line (in black) and stitching line (in pale grey).

Suggested fabrics:

Views A and C: Cotton canvas, denim, cotton drill, and other medium weight woven fabrics that hold their structure. Lightweight fabrics can be used but may require heavier fusing. Avoid fabrics with open weaves. The lining fabric can match the exterior or be a different material to create a reversible hat. It will be visible. To minimise bulk, consider using a slightly lighter weight lining.

View B: Corduroy, sherpa, fleece, heavy weight wool, tweed, quilted fabric, velvet, and terry towelling. The lining for View B should be lightweight to avoid adding extra bulk. Lightweight cotton is a good choice as it won't be visible; it is used only to line the interior of the hat, not the brim.

Fabric requirements: See image gallery.

Sizing: 1 – 9 (approx. 6-12 months to adult). Please check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Light or medium weight fusing. Type will depend on your fabric choice.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (8 pages); A1 copy shop pattern (1 sheet) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.
