Buy the Jenny Skirt sewing pattern from Homer + Howells. Jenny is a not so basic, basic. Her midi-length is modern and utilitarian, and works amazingly in a drill or denim. The short version in boucle or tweed is perfect for a little more glamour.

Jenny has a curved waistband, centre front zip fly, and darted back for a great fit. The front split and large front patch pockets are super flattering.

Great style

I am a very new sewer and bought this pattern some time ago but only recently plucked up the courage to try it. The first attempt went a bit awry size wise but I managed to rescue it and the 2nd has turned out really well so I have 2 lovely new corduroy skirts and just ordered some Needlecord to complete my winter skirt collection

Jenny in dark denim

Jenny is the kind of skirt you would want for all seasons, in all kinds of fabric. It comes in two different lengths, one midi with a front slit, and a classic mini.

The pattern is well drafted and the instructions are really easy to follow. I particularly like the large patch pockets which are very current. If you prefer a more classic style, it's fairly easy to change them into slit pockets.

My version is made in a dark indigo denim, probably 12-13 oz. I added about 3 cm to the finished length and made a tiny slit for interest. The result is perfect for so may occasions. I've written a blog post about it if you are interested in a more detailed assessment of Jenny.
