Buy the Franca Dress sewing pattern from Fibre Mood. Freedom! The mid-length Franca shirtdress enjoys making life easy for you. The large curved side slits at the bottom gives the design a gentle, friendly feel. But the polo collar, yoke at the back and short inset sleeves give it just the right dose of spirit. Dress up Franca in crepe or satin or go the cosy casual route with linen. Altering the length is easy as 1-2-3. Franca also looks fab over skinny jeans, leggings or even wide-leg trousers. She's also sure to be your best friend at the beach in an airy cotton. Just slip her on over your swimsuit!

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: Make Franca in a fabric with a fluid drape. Woven fabrics such as viscose (crepe), polyester (crepe), cotton, satin, linen and Tencel are all good options. Knit fabrics also work as long as they have enough body. The details (collar, closure, etc.) won’t look crisp with a lightweight, overly thin jersey.

Fabric requirements: 110 cm wide fabric: 300 - 370 cm // 140 cm wide fabric: 235 - 330 cm.

Sizing: XS – XXXL (approx. UK 6 – 28/30). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread; iron-on interfacing, max. 45 cm; 4 buttons, 1.5 cm diameter.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (42 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets); projector pattern.

Note: Seam allowances are included in this pattern. The copy shop file we print for you shows the cutting lines only (not cutting lines and stitching lines) to make it easier to know what size to cut out.

Hidden gem

I've not seen many people on social media posting about the Franca Dress by Fibre Mood and I wanted to post a review here as I think it is a pattern that has perhaps been overlooked but is actually really lovely. The pattern calls for a drapey fabric but I made up my version in a cotton block print which had a bit of body to it. It is quite an oversized pattern but the details like the collar and collar stand and the nice button placket mean that the finished garment feels quite smart and high quality. It feels very much like something you might buy in Toast or a similar shop. Its the perfect dress for hot weather but you could also wear it to work or to a nice restaurant on holiday. I found, in common with other Fibre Mood patterns, that the instructions were a bit unclear and left some information out, such as where to use interfacing. However, the design is really great and I would say if you have made a shirt before you would have no problems with the construction. The half button placket in particular is put together in a really clever way that gives a lovely finish and it is not too fiddly. Overall I think this is a great pattern and really good value for money. I would like to make a second version in a solid tencel/linen blend, I think that would work really nicely.
