Suggested fabrics: The Billie trousers are versatile when it comes to fabric. Choose from cotton, wool or suiting and have fun with prints or solid colours. This pattern works best in fabrics with some structure. Try to avoid fabrics with too much drape.

Fabric requirements: 140 cm wide fabric: 145 - 235 cm.

Sizing: EU 32 – 58 / US 0 – 26 / UK 4 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 26/28, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread; iron-on interfacing, max. 40 cm; 1 snap or button, 2 cm diameter; zip, 12 cm for sizes 32-44 or 14 cm for sizes 46-58.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (24 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets).

Note: Seam allowances are included in this pattern. The copy shop file we print for you shows the cutting lines only (not cutting lines and stitching lines) to make it easier to know what size to cut out.

Wearable toile

I’ve been remaking some previously loved trouser/pants patterns as some healthier practices have meant I’m a little smaller and a different shape to what I was 18months ago.

I loved my previous Billie Trousers by Fibremood and I even had enough of the same fabric to make up a pocketless wearable toile in a size down from my previous ones.

I do find the Fibremood size table not quite right for these trousers.

I’m 30’’waist and 37’’ hip

The pattern size table for one size down than my previous ones is the Size 36, for a 27.6’’ waist, 37’’ hip

However, the finished measurements table gave a finished measurement of 30’’ for the waist

I went with a straight size 36, they were almost perfect, even around the waist.

The only thing I had to do for fit was to scoop 1cm from the back crotch curve at the seat of my bum as my bum was looking a little fabric hungry. I was fairly happy with the result.

I’ve since gone on a research mission on the ‘hungry bum’ and found some really interesting articles discussing a rear crotch extension.

I’ve linked the articles in my blog post here

Perfect work trousers

I was desperate for more work trousers and was thinking a looser fit, and possibly a more current shape, was the way forward.

These Fibremood Billie trousers fit the bill perfectly. I would say they are a little on the trending ‘balloon’ shape in the leg.

They are fairly cropped. A pretty perfect autumn length for me, but I’m 5ft 3, so yes, cropped.

I did have to dig around for the size chart to work out my preferred size. I found it on the Fibremood website, my printed pattern only gave me the finished garment measurements. The ease, as I found out is generous.

These particular trousers were actually my toile. But after making the adjustments I really liked them, so deconstructed them and reassembled them with more care and the correct stitch length etc. Hence why they don’t have any side pockets. And to be honest, I don’t miss them.

In accordance with the size chart, I made a UK size 10, size 38, and graded up to a UK size 14, size 42, at the waist.

I carefully, to avoid stretching, tried them on before adding the waistband and could see gapping around the waist, enough to reduce the waist back down to a size 38, my hip size.

After adjusting the seams, I altered the waistband accordingly and attached it for a final try on which was pretty perfect.

The instructions that come with the printed pattern are more diagram based than hand holding, which was fine for most of the make. But the written instructions, found on the website, helped me fill in the gaps.

I was so pleased with these when I’d finished them I couldn’t wait to wear them!!! For more details on the adjustment I made see my blog post
