This slightly cropped cardigan-style jacket has wrist-length raglan sleeves and a bomber-inspired collar. Optional snaps provide closure at the centre front. Suggested fabrics: The Monarch Jacket should be sewn using stable knit fabrics with at least 20% stretch. The collar of the Monarch Jacket should be sewn using a knit fabric with at least 40% stretch. Ribbing can be used for the collar if desired. Ponte, French terry, double knit, stretch fleece, sherpa, neoprene, and scuba are suitable for the Monarch Jacket. Fabrics weighing 9-14 oz/yd² are recommended.

Fabric requirements: Additional fabric may be required for directional prints or print matching. Most rayon-based ponte fabrics shrink considerably (up to 15% in both directions) when washed. Please consider this when buying fabric for the Monarch Jacket.

Extended sizing Monarch fits the bill

I tested the Monarch jacket extended sizing in a 16 for Allie Olson and liked the jacket so much I made a second. The new sizing adds US 12-30 sizes based on a D cup and also bust darts to suit a curvier chest.

Construction is very fast for a jacket - just a few hours - and this is because it's a knit jacket with raglan sleeves and relatively few pieces. You can really make the jacket look quite different depending on which fabric you use. For my first I used a See you at Six French Terry which makes a fab layer and is so cozy. The brass snaps went quite well I thought and I used more than the suggested number.

For a second version I sized up to an 18 because I wanted to create more of an outerwear jacket and so left out the snaps and used a slightly heftier fabric. I think it worked really well and construction was very well explained.

It's a great little jacket and I recommend it. For full details and lots more pics, feel free to check out my blog post if you're interested :)

Comfy casual jacket

This is a nice little casual jacket. Construction is quite easy ( especially with an overlocker) . As it is a slightly boxy style I did not need to make any adjustments to fit  once deciding on sizing. I like the deep band design and the placement of the snappers which keeps this loose. The only bits requiring extra attention when sewing up we’re making sure the collar sat well into the front edges and ensuring the band depth was equal at the front. I also added a lining to the jacket. This is not included in the pattern but there is a vlog on You Tube which shows how to do this. The finished item is very comfy to wear.
