Buy the Rib Sweater sewing pattern from The Modern Sewing Co. The Rib Sweater is a slouchy jersey jumper but with a bit more style – a ‘big cosy sweatshirt’ that somehow manages to feel both supremely relaxed and chic. The main feature of this garment is the voluminous sleeve with an extended cuff in ribbing that matches the hem and collar. There are two options for the collar height: the full version and a shorter version that sits lower on the neck. A simple piece to make, it’s a great project for beginners.

Suggested fabrics: 

Jersey: For a sweater that is cosy and warm to wear, the designer recommends a medium-heavy weight jersey. A sweatshirt fleece jersey or french terry are both nice options. Your main fabric should weigh about 300-500 g/m².

Ribbing: A ‘chunky’ ribbing which might weigh about 300-500 g/m².

Fabric requirements: 

150 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 16, 120 cm // Sizes 18 – 28, 125 cm.

110 cm wide fabric: Sizes 4 – 16, 140 cm // Sizes 18 – 28, 190 cm.

You will also need an 80 cm length of ribbed jersey, which usually comes on rolls that are 70 cm wide.

Sizing: UK 4 – 28 (approx. UK 4/6 – 26, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is drafted for a height of 5’8″ and a cup size ‘C’.
