Buy the TPC3 The Cape sewing pattern from Trend Patterns. Inspired by the AW16 catwalks, this will be the only cape you'll ever want to own, and we're sure you'll be making one in every colour. Use a nice quality wool to compliment the chic, luxurious shape, and you will be making an entrance whenever you wear it.

There are two opening options, centre front or centre back neck. You can also choose to make the cape in a short or long length. The longer length is great for a chic evening look, and the short is perfect for keeping warm during the day.

Note: Trend Patterns are suited to a more confident maker.

Lovely finished product if you can get through the instructions

The final cape I am very happy with, however the instructions are awful and confusing. I am an experienced sewer and I gave up on the written instructions and just made the cape the way that made sense to me. The layout is also confusing showing the front piece as a half piece on the fold on the layout when it is a single full piece on the paper pattern. Worth the effort if you are comfortable taking your own path but probably not for beginners.

Have cape - will fly

It all started at the Stitch Festival last Thursday. After promising myself I would not buy anything I ended up with 3m of gold fabric and a cape pattern. Very sensible as always.

I was then racing the clock - it was my 50th birthday party last Saturday and I wanted, no, needed the cape for the party.

It was a quick and easy make - but the instructions are quite sparse so may be a little daunting for absolute beginners. In the end the only thing to complicate is a zip though.

I ended up lining mine as the gold fabric was one sided which was very apparent on the long drop of the cape.

It all came good though with hours to spare. I had a fabulous birthday in a fabulous cape!

The Cape Trend Patterns

Loved making this cape. I did struggle a little with the instructions - for me they could be a little more explicit but it didn't hold me back and I now have a beautiful cape. Haven't worn it out yet (weather!!!) but everyone who has seen it has said how stunning it is
