Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight woven fabrics with no stretch. Linen, cotton (lawn, poplin, voile, seersucker, shirting, double gauze, crinkle cotton), Tencel twill, silk, and rayon/viscose challis or poplin will work well. Structured fabric like crisp cotton lawn will have more dramatic volume and drapier fabrics like rayon challis will have more fluid movement.

Fabric requirements: Allow extra fabric for pattern/print matching with large scale prints.

View A (top): 57″ (145 cm) wide fabric: 0.9 - 1.4 yd (0.8 - 1.3 m) // 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 1 - 1.5 yd (0.9 - 1.4 m).

View B (knee-length dress): 57″ (145 cm) wide fabric: 1.6 - 2.7 yd (1.5 - 2.5 m) // 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 2.4 - 2.7 yd (2.2 - 2.5 m).

View C (long dress): 57″ (145 cm) wide fabric: 2.2 - 3.3 yd (2 - 3 m) // 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 2.7 - 3.3 yd (2.5 - 3 m).

Perfect holiday dress

It’s turned out even better than I’d hoped.

The instructions recommend that you choose a size that corresponds with your upper chest measurement, as this is where the dress needs to sit close to your body. I have an upper chest measurement that is only 1 inch more than my bust, so that puts me in the B cup range. In accordance with my upper chest I chose the size 10.
Before applying the facing I tried it on. It was perfect across the bust but gaped a little under the arms. I took in the side seams by just 1cm at the top, grading to nothing at the dart.

I can also see that the darts are too high, if you were looking really hard! But this doesn’t seem to affect the fit on the chest, so I’ve got away with that.

Great top/dress!

I've already made both the top and knee-length dress versions of Reynolds, so I think it's safe to say that I'm a fan!

It's a really great pattern - it's a pull on style with no fastenings, which makes it both simple to sew and easy to wear. I also like the fact that there's shaping in both the side and centre back seams, which gives the relaxed style just enough shape to stop it being boxy or baggy.

The instructions are really good - they're thorough and include extra tips to make sewing the pattern easier. There are some nice touches, such as the mitred corners at the hem of the side slits, that make the dress feel like it's nicely finished.

I made the size recommended for my measurements and that worked out well. The only change I made was to lengthen the dress by an inch above the waist and two inches in the skirt section (I also lengthened the top by an inch), which is very standard for me.
