Buy the Pomona Pants and Shorts sewing pattern from Anna Allen. The Pomona Pants and Shorts are elastic waist, high rise and loose fitting. They have no side seams and include patch pockets on the front or back. The waistband is created by folding over the top edge of the pants, which eliminates the extra bulk you would get from a separate waistband seam. View A is a wide leg, ankle length sailor pant with one patch pocket on the back. View B is a loose tapered leg, ankle length pant, also with one patch pocket on the back. View C is the shorts version of View A, with a 5" inseam and two patch pockets on the front. This design was drafted for woven non-stretch fabrics.

Anna Allen Pomona Pants and Shorts

Love at first wear

This pattern is full of thoughtful details that are put into all of Anna's patterns - these have no side seams, a wide elastic waistband and generously sized pockets. You can make shorts, tapered or wide leg trousers and I will be making them ALL!

For my first pair, I went for the tapered leg in a crinkle double gauze. They are incredibly light and airy to wear. I have also made the shorts in a heavyweight chambray. I added length to the shorts because I was worried they would be too short, but they ended up too long! So I created little cuff turn ups, which I actually think finish the pattern perfectly.

There is plenty of ease so I may size down for the next pair of trousers. I really love this pattern!

Lovely quick project

I was actually part of the pattern testing for this pattern. The Pomona Pants is a versatile pattern that comes with 3 different views, shorts, wide trousers and tapered trousers. I love Anna Allen’s patterns; they are just my aesthetic.

I decided on a standard US size 6, as generally my hips are a bit larger and my waist slimmer than average. Pick a size that fits your hips and the the waist can easily be adjusted with the elastic.

I chose to use this lovely vintage fabric that my mum found in the back of a cupboard. Because I was in a rush due to my booked holiday, I decided to skip making a toile and start straight on the final version.

This pattern is a simple one, as it has no side seams and a grown-on waistband it is just one main pattern piece and then a piece for the pocket. Therefore, it’s a pretty quick make, and I completed it in under 2 hours.

I loved making these shorts and I've actually made 2 other pairs since.
