Buy the Jade Wrap Dress sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. The Jade Wrap Dress is a classic fit-and-flare dress with a beautiful back wrap twist. Based on classic apron styles of the 50s, Jade is a multi-tasking workhorse. Make Jade in linen or cotton and wear it out for a summertime ice cream. Or make Jade in wool and layer with long-sleeved knit tops or blouses for cooler weather.

The fully lined sleeveless bodice features princess seam front shaping and darted back shaping, finished with a gentle V neckline. The wide A-line skirt includes side seam pockets and falls to below the knee. The back skirt overlaps almost side seam to side seam (it’s stepped back just a smidge so you can’t see the edge of the skirt when looking from the front), meaning you have plenty of coverage across the back, even in windy weather.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

Suggested fabrics:

The Jade Wrap Dress works best in mid-weight woven fabrics with some drape. Fabrics such as linen, chambray and denim are lovely and easy to work with. Broderie anglaise, seersucker, jacquard, tencel and sateen also work very well. Mid-weight wool, suitings, flannels and pinwale cord make an excellent heavier weight garment for cooler climes.

Choose a lightweight lining such as lawn or voile, or use the same fabric as the main garment if using a lighter weight cloth. Synthetic linings can also be used.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching or adding length.

Main: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric (sizes 6-14 only): 3.25 m (3.55 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 3 – 3.5 m (3.28 – 3.82 yd).

Lining: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 0.75 – 1.25 m (0.82 – 1.36 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 0.5 – 1 m (0.54 – 1.09 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A – D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C – F cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.

To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.

Jade is drafted for an average height of 170 cm (5’7″).

Optional notions: Interfacing (depending on your fabric weight, you may choose to interface your waist ties, but this is not strictly necessary); stay tape (to help keep the back neckline from stretching out, particularly useful for lightweight fabrics and ones that are prone to warping, such as linen).

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (64 pages for sizes 6-24, 70 pages for sizes 16-34); A0 copy shop pattern (4 sheets for sizes 6-24, 4 sheets for sizes 16-34). This pattern has layers so you can select your size(s) before printing.
