Buy the Freia Blouse sewing pattern from Sew Over It. Full of romance, the Freia Blouse is a gorgeously floaty lightweight top, with on-trend ruffles at the neckline and sleeve hems.

The blouse gathers around the neckline into a pretty ruffle collar and is finished with a rouleau tie, while the set-in sleeves gather with elastic. Choose from a cute short puff sleeve, or an elegant full length one. The bodice front (and optionally back) are lined for modesty, with the sleeves kept sheer for a delicate mix of textures.

Shaped with gathers rather than darts, Freia makes for a comfortable, easy fit. Designed to be sewn in lightweight drapey fabrics, this blouse makes a nice challenge for an intermediate sewer looking to grow their skills with an interesting project. The pattern includes instructions for French seams for an impeccable finish.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

Suggested fabrics: Lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, georgette and fine rayons (rayon twill will be too thick).

To avoid the blouse being too sheer, there is the option to line the front and/or back of the blouse. You will need 0.75 m of a solid chiffon fabric for lining just the front, or 1.5 m (sizes 6-20) or 1.6 m (sizes 18-30) for lining both the front and back.

Fabric requirements:

Sizes 6 – 20

Version 1 (long sleeve): 1.15 m wide fabric: 2.2 - 2.5 m // 1.40 m wide fabric: 1.8 - 2.4 m.

Version 2 (short sleeve): 1.15 m wide fabric: 2 - 2.2 m // 1.40 m wide fabric: 1.8 - 2.0 m.

Sizes 18 – 30

Version 1 (long sleeve): 1.40 m wide fabric: 2.5 m.

Version 2 (short sleeve): 1.40 m wide fabric: 2.0 - 2.1 m.

Sizing: UK 6 – 20 and UK 18 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 20 and UK 20 – 32, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size charts and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is split into two different blocks. The 6 – 20 size range is drafted for a B cup. The 18 – 30 size range is drafted for a D cup.

Notions: 1 m of 6 mm wide elastic; 0.4 m (sizes 6-20) or 0.5 m (sizes 18-30) of bias cut organza to stabilise the neckline (optional, but highly recommended).

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4 print-at-home pattern (44 pages for sizes 6-20, 53 pages for sizes 18-30); US letter print-at-home pattern (45 pages for sizes 6-20, 53 pages for sizes 18-30); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets for sizes 6-20, 3 sheets for sizes 18-30).

A little fiddly but worth it.

My fabric was purchased from Dewsbury market. Its a very reasonably priced poly blend something, a little thicker than the recommended georgette and chiffon but it worked perfectly for this pattern without the need for the bodice being lined.

I wanted something fairly casual that I could wear working from home. Something comfy, but pleasant to look at and roomy enough to wear a cami underneath. My fabric choice means it doesn’t need ironing! I just hang it up wet, on a hanger and voila, ready to wear.

I learnt a new skill – a rolled hem using the overlocker. This was remarkably successful! So much so I used it not only around the neck but also on the cuffs and bottom hem. I used this tutorial from You Tube.

I made up a size 12, a full size up from my measurements. I find sizing up on Sew Over It solves my broad back, rounded shoulder issues which generally puts me off the more fitted SOI patterns.

Also, when doing my research I thought that some examples of this blouse looked a little mean on the shoulders, with the top of the sleeve head creeping onto the shoulder top.

It was a lovely lovely sew. Lots of ruffles to pull around the neckline. It was fiddly, there were lots of stages and and you really had to pay attention to how much you pulled the ruffle in to fit the neckline beautifully.
