Buy the Forsythe Dress sewing pattern from French Navy. The Forsythe Dress is a relaxed fit dress with hip yoke pockets and a slightly dropped waistline. The short grown-on sleeves attach to a narrow cuff, which can be turned up or left unfolded, as preferred. The bodice is gently shaped by curved panel lines, and the back features a button closure. Its breezy silhouette will ensure it is a summertime staple, yet the boxy bodice cut means it is also the perfect dress for comfortable layering over your favourite turtleneck and tights in cooler months.

Note: A pattern expansion (sold separately) is available for the Forsythe Dress. The Forsythe Dress Pattern Expansion includes beautifully draped three-quarter length bishop sleeves and a button front bodice.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: The Forsythe Dress is best suited to light to medium weight woven fabric with an element of drape. Challis, chambray, cotton shirting, flannel, lightweight linen blends, viscose, rayon or viscose/rayon blends. Due to the relaxed fit of the dress, it is recommended you size down one size when using fabric with a large amount of stretch.

Fabric requirements: Extra fabric will be needed to match stripes or checks and for fabrics with a directional print.

115 cm (45″) wide fabric: XXS-M, 2 m (2.2 yd) // L-XXL, 2.3 m (2.5 yd).

150 cm (58″) wide fabric: XXS-M, 1.7 m (1.8 yd) // L-XXL, 1.9 m (2.1 yd).

Sizing: XXS – XXL (approx. UK 6 – 16). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread; five 1 cm (3/8″) buttons; 76 cm (30″) of single fold binding tape (only if you are not making binding with your fabric – self-binding is not recommended for thicker fabrics); 45 cm (18″) of lightweight fusible interfacing. Note: If you are using very lightweight fabric then it is recommended that you interface your cuffs, in which case an additional 55 cm (22″) of interfacing will be required.

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (35 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: Yes.
