Buy the Edie Top and Dress sewing pattern from Merchant & Mills. The balloon sleeves of this simple top and dress are the only detail that it requires to stand out. Less is more. The full sleeves are gathered with a tie which is threaded through a buttonhole, or you can omit the buttonhole and insert elastic instead.

Suggested fabrics: Lighter weight woven fabrics, linen and linen blends, poplin, hemp and hemp blends, cotton chambray, Indian handweaves and block prints, tencel and tencel linen. The more structured the fabric the more sculptural your top will look.

Another version of the Edie based on M&M Edie Pattern Hack. I followed the instructions to crop the Edie top and add a gathered skirt. Also inspired by sine of the jersey/woven dresses on the high street I made the top from Cotton/Elastane fabric from Hobbycraft and the skirt fabric is M&M European Laundered Linen in Demon Scarlet. Thread is Gutermann Sew All 156. I also wanted a short sleeve for this version. So the sleeve is from Atelier Brunette La Chemisette.

This is my second Edie top as I love this patternand always get compliments when I wear the blue version. I made a size 12 but added 11cm to the hem this time. This is in Merchant & Mills Whisper ikat cotton.

My latest make, and although Edie wasn't listed I was inspired by recent blog: Sew from your fabric stash: spring blouses. I went straight to my stash and identified Edie as the perfect Spring blouse. I've already made it up as a winter dress so knew the pattern well.
I love Edie. I'm a sucker for big sleeves and this fits the bill if you're looking for a top that makes a statement.

Like everyone says it's all about the sleeves! This is a simple dress that can easily styled up or down. I used a polyester viscose check which is really cosy and warm. The pattern as usual from M & M is well designed and instructions easy to follow. I added patch pockets and a tie belt as it felt a bit too wide on its own plus a tuck halfway down the sleeves which helps with the weight of the voluminous sleeves especially in a thicker fabric. Can't recommend it enough as a great transitional dress to wear with boots.
