Buy the Calyx Smock sewing pattern from Pattern Fantastique. The Calyx Smock is named after the part of the flower where petals and fruit form. Balanced between the decorative and utilitarian, the pattern stems from the designer’s memory of the hairdressing apron her mother wore in the late 70s, combined with a gathered smock the designer’s mother dressed her in at the same time.

The neckline is high with gathers radiating from the binding. Cropped above the knee, the shirttail hemline gives the illusion the dress is shorter than it really is. The top version has a subtler hem shape for an even finish around the high hip. Both versions have options for a rolled or faced hem and cap or elbow length sleeves. There is a tie closure at the centre back.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PAPER (next working day dispatch on orders and FREE UK delivery over £50)

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Suggested fabrics: The Calyx Smock is suitable for many woven fabrics. Use a fine, sheer lightweight silk for some fully floaty romance, or a mid-weight denim for some mid-winter layering. You are limited by fabrics that are too thick to bind after gathering.
