Buy the Aisling Blouse sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. The Aisling Blouse is a modern take on the classic square necklines of the 60s. With an optional collar, Aisling also comes with your choice of a full button-down or cut-on-the-fold bodice. Gently shaped at the bust with darts (E and F cups have a double bust dart), Aisling lightly flares in an A-line shape from the bust down. The long blouson-style sleeves end at the wrist with a comfortable elastic hem - gathered enough for a little drama while still the perfect everyday sleeve. Wear Aisling tucked into high-waisted skirts for a chic office look or free flowing with a pair of skinny jeans for the weekend.

Suggested fabrics: Lightweight woven fabrics with some drape. Choose any of your favourite fabrics from cotton lawn, voile and poplin to linen and chambray. Rayon, silks and sheer fabrics would make a lovely dressy Aisling Blouse.

Fabric requirements: Extra may be required for pattern/print matching or adding length.

View 1: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 2.5 - 3.25 m (2.73 - 3.55 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 1.75 - 2.75 m (1.91 - 3 yd).

View 2: 115 cm (45") wide fabric: 2.25 - 3 m (2.46 - 3.28 yd) // 150 cm (60") wide fabric: 1.5 - 2.5 m (1.64 - 2.73 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A – D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C – F cups. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.

To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing, approx. 110 cm x 68 cm (43 1/4" x 29 3/4"); 8 mm (5/16") wide elastic // View 1: 1.5 cm (5/8") wide buttons or snaps, 5 for 6-24 or 7 for 16-34.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (70 pages for sizes 6-24, 84 pages for sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the pages for your cup size); A0 copy shop pattern (3 sheets for sizes 6-24, 4 sheets for sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup size) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: No.

It's all about THAT collar

I've been a long-time admirer of Jennifer Lauren Handmade patterns. I absolutely love the vintage-inspired aesthetic her patterns have - they have a nod to retro styles without being a pastiche. I chose to make the Aisling Blouse pattern as I though it would be super practical for me and easily hackable, and already it's proving that.

I used this wonderful lemon fabric from my shop Bornella Fabrics which is a linen/viscose blend. I made view A with the collar - I'm an utter sucker for a collar! - but I wanted to highlight it. I've seen quite a few makes of this blouse on Instagram where the blouse is made in a patterned fabric and the collar gets a bit lost in the print. I didn't want that - quite the opposite - I wanted to emphasise the collar, especially as it's such a pretty shape with that lovely square neckline. I made two changes to the pattern - firstly to shorten the sleeves as I want this to be a summer blouse, and secondly to add a ruffle to the edge of the collar.

The blouse came together super quickly. I found the neckline was relatively straightforward. For a great result make sure you pivot the needle the moment you sew past the collar - that way you'll get the square neckline to start exactly where the collar finishes. You also need to make sure you clip into the seam allowance at that corner to create a super neat corner when pressing.

The sleeves went in pretty easily without too many hiccups and then it was just the finishing touches of buttons - I used these yellow doughnuts by Ethel and Joan which look like they were made for this blouse.

And voila! The Aisling Blouse was complete. I found it a super speedy, super enjoyable sew. The instructions were clear and I found the finished blouse true to size. I can see myself making a lot of these down the line, especially if decide to hack it.

Happy sewing

Pretty blouse!

I've been meaning to make the Aisling blouse since it was first released, and I'm glad I finally got around to it!

I made the simplest version (no buttons, no collar) so it was fairly quick and easy to sew, but all the same the instructions are really good - clear and with just the right amount of detail.

The square neckline is really pretty, and I also particularly like the blouson style sleeves and their elasticated cuffs.

I made a 14/B cup as recommended for my measurements and it turned out nicely. I didn't make any adjustments and the fit is good - it sits nicely at the shoulders and bust and then flares out slightly towards the waist and hips.

I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and can definitely see myself making this pattern again in the future.
