Buy the 229 Unisex Sailor Pants sewing pattern from Folkwear. These sailor pants originate from those worn by WWII Navy seamen. This style and design have been part of the Navy uniform, or “Crackerjack” uniform, for many decades; and the nautical style has influenced fashion for more than half a century.

These iconic high-waisted bell bottom pants are loaded with all the elements and details of the original, such as the distinctive buttoned front flap closure, lace-up back eyelet gusset, back welt pocket, and inner leg godet. A small hidden coin pocket is tucked neatly in the front waistband seam. All the details of this pants design reflect the practical sensibilities of a uniform combined with a casual sophistication that remains timeless.

Suggested fabrics: Medium to heavy weight woven fabrics such as wool melton, denim, twill, cotton duck, linen, flannel, light to medium weight canvas. For lining, a lighter weight fabric can be used: poplin, broadcloth, silk habotai, muslin.

Fabric requirements: 45″ (115 cm) wide fabric: 2 7/8 – 3 1/4 yd (2.6 – 3 m) // 60″ (150 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/8 – 2 3/4 yd (1.9 – 2.5 m) // Lining (any fabric width): 3/4 – 7/8 yd (0.7 – 0.8 m).

Sizing: For men or women, waist size 30 – 42 (28″ – 42″, approx. UK 8/10 – 22). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Thread; twelve to sixteen 1/2″-3/4″ (13-19 mm) buttons; shoelace, cord, or ribbon 35″-40″ (0.9-1 m) long; 1/4 yd (23 cm) interfacing (optional); topstiching thread (optional).
