This dress finally came together – I really like it now I’ve finished it but boy did I have a rough time getting there! All my problems seem to stem from my fabric choice which was a super stretchy viscose (rayon) jersey in green. As the material was so fine the weight meant that the panels of the dress kept stretching out and pulling everything down. In the end to get everything sitting as it should I had to re-sew the shoulder seams to lift it up – I ended up taking off over 2 inches (both front and back)!! After this the fit was as expected and although I had other (numerous) problems they were not to do with the pattern – but more my inexperience with working with this fabric. You can read all about my experience and see more pictures on my blog: http://www.getsetsew.com/my-troublesome-davie-dress/

I must say though that the instructions were very clear and I had no problems in the construction of the dress which is actually very simple. The neckline uses bias binding as a facing – a technique I hadn’t done before and I found the instructions clear and helpful. Overall I would like to try this pattern again but this time using a more stable knit – probably a Ponte Di Roma or a double knit of some kind. Hope this is helpful to anyone thinking of doing this pattern – it is a great dress, just choose your fabric wisely!
