I’ve sewn a few wrap dresses in my time but finding that perfect fit at the bustline has proved somewhat elusive…until now! The Appleton by Cashmerette is a revelation!

I’m kicking myself for not making it sooner really as it’s also an incredible quick and simple sew; which is fantastic in a pattern that’s likely to end up as a TNT … plus the fact that you can also get the wrap cardigan style top expansion pack for it!!

I made mine as part of the #sewtogetherforsummer wrap dress challenge. You can read about this name and that challenge over on my blog http://www.sewsarahsmjth.com

This is my new favourite dress! My recent love of wrap dresses extended recently when I met up with Jenny who owns Cashmarette. Over a cuppa we were discussing the issues of gaping necklines when you have big boobs and Jenny kindly sent me the Appleton pattern to try. I may not have bought it because I’m a UK size 12 and these patterns start at UK16 but they are designed for big boobs and come in a choice of cup sizes. She reassured me that it was worth a go and it’s easy to grade down the waist. I was so confident I cut it out in my favourite stash fabric – a beautiful scuba from fabrics galore.

I’m smitten! A really well designed (the neckband is some kind of magic), great instructions, and if you’re bigger than a B cup, it’s not often you can make something straight off the packet / printer.

My dress is getting it’s second outing this evening, for our anniversary night out 🙂

    APPLETON DRESS

My new favourite wrap dress. The construction is simple enough although at times you feel a little drowned in jesery especially before you sew up the sides.

I also ended up omitting one side closure & making the other one smaller as once the dress is on I felt like I was flashing a bit of side flesh.

I also prefer mine tied to the side but that’s personal choice.

I cut a size 16 as per sizing in instructions a a D cup (the cup sizes are genius for us more gifted in that department) no more grading or adjusting.

I will definitely be making more, this jesery is more suited for spring /summer but depends on fabric choice this dress is a great all year round dress.

I used a medium weight knit fabric, it might be heavier than it should for this pattern but since I had chosen to go a size up in the bust it fits perfectly!
I made a size 14 with cup size c, the instruction are detailed and easy to follow and I didn’t need to make any alterations apart from lengthing a bit the hem and the sleeves.
My dress looks just as in the envelope and would deffenetely recomend this pattern to anyone, it’s the perffect wrap dress pattern!!!!
