Timeless Coat

A review of Sew Over It 1960s Coat

I recently made the SOI 1960s Coat in herringbone Harris Tweed.

I love the finished garment.  It’s a big, involved make but worth it in the end.  The pattern instructions are good, and very clear.  There is a lot of hand stitching with this, it’s not bagged out so you have to stitch the bottom hem by hand – twice because you sew the coat outer and then the lining.  It took me hours and I had to Google how to slip stitch.

There are a lot of seams because it has side panels as well as front and back pieces, so be aware of that if you’re planning to pattern match something like checks.  It makes for a nice fit though and the pocket construction in the seam is nice.

I have a blog post with all the details https://sewminigems.wordpress.com/2023/12/03/sew-over-it-1960s-coat/
