Super sleek sweatshirt

A review of Named Sloane Sweatshirt

A friend recommended this pattern to me knowing that I love a sweatshirt. This is one with a cute design feature, long diagonal darts which give the sweater a sleek sophisticated shape which appealed to the smarter side of me. It’s slightly cropped which means it will look super with either trousers or a skirt. My measurements are bust 34, waist 32 and hips 37 so the flattering darts take the eye away from my small bust…I chose a size 10 as I like a more relaxed shape around my waist so didn’t have to make any adjustments. For my first Sloane I chose a white French Terry and made the cuffs, neck band and hem band from the same fabric. I used a 4mm satin ribbon as a stay tape on the shoulder seams. I traced my pattern and cut out my fabric very easily and used tailor tacks to mark the bust darts. It felt strange to be sewing such long low darts but the finished effect is very satisfying, nice precise darts with all notches matching. That was the only fiddly part and the rest of the sweatshirt went together very easily. I used a stretch stitch for the darts, sewing the cuff bands, neck band and hem band together and my overlocker for main seams. As you can see in the photos, the finished Sloane is rather elegant and I couldn’t be happier. I was hooked on this pattern so started my second one a few days later choosing a grey French Terry. I’m planning to sew this pattern with my refugee sewing class so needed to trace off a few different sizes anyway. I decided to size up and lower the darts. I’m pleased with the final result and feel that this gives the Sloane more of a casual feel.

This is my first Named company pattern and I will definitely try another. I know that the women at the centre will love the Syli blouse so that will be a spring term project.
