Such a great pattern!

A review of Helen's Closet Unisex Wildwood Jacket and Vest

I’ve wanted to make a quilted jacket for a while but always felt slightly daunted by the prospect. If you’re in the same boat, I can’t recommend the Wildwood jacket highly enough!

The instructions are excellent and fully answered all of the questions that I had in my mind about making the jacket. After reading through them, I felt much more confident that I’d be able to do a good job of the project. In addition to telling you how to construct the jacket itself, they cover making and attaching bias binding, quilting your pieces, choosing the stitching pattern for quilting and pre-shrinking your pieces.

It’s not a quick project, but at the same time it’s not really difficult. None of the individual steps are particularly complicated, there are just quite a lot of them and they all take some time. My advice is just to enjoy the project and not rush it.

I made the size recommended for my measurements and I like how it turned out. There’s just enough ease to allow for wearing layers, without the jacket feeling too big. The overlapped seams would mean that it would be fairly easy to make tweaks to the fit if you need to.

I pieced together my outer fabric using a fat quarter bundle that I won a while ago, used cotton batting, and my lining fabric is a Laura Ashley cotton that’s been in my stash for a while.
