Penny Dress – Sew Over It

A review of Sew Over It Penny Dress

I’ve made about 4 or 5 Penny dresses now, this is my most recent version. Fabric is a cotton lawn from Sewisfaction.
On my first Penny I found the bodice to be very short so I lengthened it for the next few. I lengthened it again for this most recent one. I also have used a different skirt pattern than in the pattern and added pockets. And I also lowered the point at which you stop sewing under the arms to created the armhole. I found it was too restrictive at the point indicated on the pattern so I lowered it. Not a huge fan of how the side seams are finished but I think that is easily adjusted for anyone with experience.
I followed the instructions very easily. The only time I’ve come into difficulty is adding the final collar piece/facing – there are a lot of layers at times to sew through and I occasionally caught more fabric than I should have done.
I love this pattern and the style is very wearable – came in very handy for a conference I attended (smart/casual) and I often wear them for work.
