Painful instructions

A review of Trend Patterns TPC27 Puff Back Jacket

This was a bit of an adventure for me, as I’d never done welt pockets, but the pattern envelope promised detailed instructions. Hmm.  I suppose they are detailed, but clear they are not. It doesn’t help that they sometimes try to make one diagram illustrate 3 different steps, and that instructions are sometimes on a different page from the corresponding diagram, making them even harder to follow.  I’m lucky that I live near Ray Stitch, and I ended up going to their freestyle workshops twice just because I couldn’t understand what I was supposed to do.  I’m pleased with the end result, the pieces went together well and only a couple of steps in the construction process were tricky once you’d figured out what you were supposed to be doing, but god figuring it out was unnecessarily difficult.

The sizing comes up pretty big – the design means that doesn’t really matter, but I would shorten the sleeves by a couple of inches if I made it again.
