A review of Vikisews Abbie Jacket

I made this jacket as soon as it came out as I love the design however I felt compelled to write a review after having seen Kate’s recent pattern vlog where she described this as an ‘easy’ and ‘simple’ pattern. Please note that Vikisews classes this as Advanced pattern which in my opinion is much nearer the mark bearing in mind that this is a fully lined jacket with a separating zipper, pockets cleverly concealed in the front darts, back darts, two piece sleeves, a stand collar and a separately quilted zipper placket. I made my version in a gorgeous pure wool fleece from Merchant and Mills and just sewing the fleece accurately is a challenge in itself, especially getting the collar neat and tidy. I used a wool/linen blend striped offcut to line the body, with acetate lining for the sleeves. The pattern requires all the fleece in the seams to be combed out to make them as little visible as possible (handy hint: an old nit comb from my children’s schooldays worked really well for this). The concealed front pockets are one of the cleverest design features I’ve seen and although a little tricky are well worth the effort. This is the first Vikisews pattern I’ve made and the photo instructions are very detailed and precise. I have worn the jacket almost every day since I made it, it’s super warm and goes with everything.
