Make a toile – a lot of adjustments required

Not for the faint hearted. The measurements are for finished garment rather than body measurements. I used an existing pair of trousers that fitted me in the appropriate way and matched the measurements to these. I made a toile and it was at least 1 size too big all over.

I had to add an extra 10cm to the trouser length to end up with an ankle length trouser. Adding the extra length at the point marked on the pattern gave too much fullness in the lower leg so I ended up just adding the extra to the bottom. These are very short trousers.

The nature of the pattern meant that you have to pretty much to complete it in order to make adjustments for fit so a slow process.

I found that the rear yoke was way too high and this meant that the waistband sat too high on my back – again another adjustment by 2cm.

The cargo side pocket is integrated and challenging and I’m not altogether sure that there’s any real style benefit. I would have been just as happy with a patch pocket which would have been much easier.

All in all a long project for a wearable pair of trousers that I like but don’t love
