Cocoon Jacket review

A review of Sew Different Cocoon Jacket

This was my first make of the Cocoon jacket. I’d bought a navy patterned wool fabric but had to think about the lining as my first and second choice were too thick I felt similar settled on a navy paisley satin like fabric. I cut it in a size 12 (UK) as that matched my bust measurement and since the jacket was described as relaxed I felt it would work over my hips (closer to a 14). As I was making it up I felt it was going to be a little tight on the hips so just reduced my seam allowance on the side seams. It fitted well as a result. It was an easy make with good insructions. I did decide to top stitch all the way around to ensure the lining stayed flat and I also used a bias strip of the lining fabric to hem the sleeves. I’m very pleased with the result and I’m sure I’ll make this again…probably just grading to a size 14 below the bust. It felt like it took me longer to assemble the PDF printed pattern and cut the fabric than it did to sew it. Sewing time was I think under half a day and then the time for the pattern assembly and cutting out to add on. I also managed to get this out of a generous 1m (more like 1.2m) having mistakenly ordered just a single metre of fabric instead of 2.
