A simple, beautiful, staple!

A review of I AM Patterns Hestia Skirt

This is a great pattern for a confident beginner, although if you’re not a fan of gathering, I would give this one a miss!

I made the long version of the skirt and chose some really beautiful viscose for my project. It has amazing fluidity and drape, which has resulted in a super-swishy skirt!

I would describe the instructions as ‘concise’, but they were easy to follow and the illustrations included in each stage were useful. Be careful as you attach the waistband, because there is an error in the text which may lead you to sew it on back-to-front!

I made the size 40, which suited my measurements the best, but I took about 1.5″/2″ off the waistband to get a nice snug fit. In doing so I accidentally re-marked the waistband notches incorrectly, so my side seams are not quite at the sides and there is more gathering at the front than the back! It’s not noticeable and I don’t care, so it can stay like that! Other than avoiding making the same mistake again, I wouldn’t make any changes to my next Hestia skirt.

I really love the finished garment and it’s even more swishy and comfortable than I envisaged. I love the volume you get from the gathers, the nice deep hem and of course, the pockets!
