A perfect pattern/ fabric combination

A review of Jennifer Lauren Handmade Raine Dress

I have been meaning to make the Raine dress since it was released- a lovely summery dress, with a curved waistband, option of different necklines and skirts. Oh and lovely lovely pockets and cup sizes!! I opted for the jewel neckline and gathered skirt, and used this beautiful border embroidered chambray for it from Higgs and Higgs.

Size wise- I made an 8A and only slightly shortened the bodice- unnecessary and I won’t bother when I make it again. Otherwise- fit was pretty spot on out of the packet, which is always a delight.

This is a more advanced pattern- it has an invisible side zip, curved waistband and an all in one facing that was a bit tricky to insert. I feel like a burrito method may also work for this (and be easier!) so I will have a think about it when I make another one.

I really love this pretty summer dress- oh and did I mention lovely deep pockets? Top -tip- think about stay stitching or slightly interfacing the raw pocket opening before sewing them up as they stretched a bit…
