A Jewel of a top!

A review of Merchant & Mills Mary White Dress and Top

I have always liked a sailor top, and was immediately drawn to this new pattern by Merchant and Mills. I made this top in a chambray (also from Merchant and Mills) and used the underside as a contrast for the collar and pocket decoration. I also used a contrasting thread (white against blue). I cut out a standard size 8 and didn’t make any alterations. I must say, I found this pattern quite challenging for an intermediate and it took me longer than most Merchant and Mills patterns. However, their motto is to do things well, so I persevered. The main take home message for me was to make sure the markings for the pleat are really clear and accurate.
But I am so happy with the outcome and am hoping for the summer to return so I can wear it! Next plan is to make a white version with long sleeves. A real gem!
