The Assembly Line Balloon Skirt

Buy the Balloon Skirt sewing pattern from The Assembly Line. This midi length skirt features a flared silhouette, straight waistband, concealed zip closure at the back, and side seam pockets. Designed for versatility, the pattern includes two style options: with or without the distinctive balloon effect.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight fabrics are ideal. The balloon option works best in a fabric with some structure to hold the balloon shape, while the skirt without the balloon looks beautiful in a fabric with drape. The balloon version in the photos is made of black silk. The non-balloon version is made of a medium weight wool blend.

Fabric requirements: 

110-120 cm wide fabric: not possible.  

140-150 cm wide fabric – balloon version: XS 2.6 m / S 2.7 m / M 2.8 m / L 3.0 m / XL 3.2 m / 2XL 3.3 m / 3XL 3.4 m.

140-150 cm wide fabric – non-balloon version: XS 2.0 m / S 2.0 m / M 2.0 m / L 2.1 m / XL 2.2 m / 2XL 2.3 m / 3XL 2.4 m.

For the balloon version, you can choose to sew the lining skirt using lining fabric if you prefer, but note you cannot reduce the main fabric requirement by the same amount. 140 cm wide fabric: XS 1.0 m / S 1.0 m / M 1.2 m / L 1.2 m / XL 1.4 m / 2XL 1.6 m / 3XL 1.6 m.

Sizing: XS – L or L – 3XL (approx. UK 8 – 18 or UK 16 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Fusible interfacing; 25 cm concealed zipper; one 15-17 mm button.
