Style Arc Montana Midi Dress

I love this dress, but I can only give the pattern 3* due to the instructions being so inadequate and, less importantly, the packaging on the paper pattern is virtually non-existent. It’s said to be a beginner pattern. It would be if Style Arc took the care to provide detailed instructions, but sadly they never do. I attempted it when I’d only been sewing for a few months and had to give-up. A year later, I revisited and sewed it up without reference to instructions. I didn’t line the bodice though as my lovely Viscose, Linen fabric made that unnecessary. If I’d needed to line it, I would have looked elsewhere for guidance! Due to personal preference, I used bias binding for finishing the neck and arm holes. I’m really pleased with the finished garment and I will, no doubt, make more.

This is a relatively straightforward make as there are no  zips or buttons.

I made mine up in a viscose, and added lining to the skirt ( fabric a little see through) .

My initial sew up was too loose for my liking, despite choosing a bust size that is ‘ correct” . I took the bodice side seams in slightly to decrease “waist” size and added two waist ties so that I can cinch the dress in slightly by tying at the bag.

The finished dress is super cool and comfy

I made this out of a liberty rayon. The pattern features clean finish sleeves & neckline but uses a method different than the burrito method and worked out very well. I also liked the slightly different way ( for me) they suggested sewing the side seam pockets & felt it resulted in a flatter lie. StyleArc’s instructions are brief but they did provide illustrations for these different methods which seamed clear, however someone commented on my IG that they found the neckline finish difficult ( a novice sewer). StyleArc instructions are not the easiest if you are new to sewing (although I have read that if you contact the company they are very helpful).The pattern is cut a bit on the generous size but as I had made it in rayon and wanted something cool for the summer, I was glad I cut out my standard StyleArc 10..for reference if the Stylearc pattern is fitted I cut out a 12.
