Sew Over It Layla Dress

Buy the Layla Dress sewing pattern from Sew Over It. Sewn in cotton jersey, this oversized dress is designed for everyday comfort, with a relaxed silhouette that doesn't feel shapeless. What makes Layla special is the cut-away dart and clever twist at the waist, an innovative (but deceptively easy!) construction technique that gives the dress subtle shaping exactly where you want it.

The neckline is finished with a soft neckband, and the grown-on sleeves end in neat cuffs. Side splits add ease of movement and a little extra interest to the relaxed shape.

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: One of the pattern pieces has been split (to fit on the A0 sheet) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics: Light to medium weight knit fabrics such as cotton jersey. Viscose or bamboo jersey will provide a much drapier version of Layla. Avoid chosing bulky fabrics as this could make it difficult to sew the twist.

Fabric requirements: The fabric requirements include only 10 cm (1/8 yd) buffer to avoid fabric wastage.

Sizes 6 - 20

1.15 m (45") wide fabric: 3 m (3 1/4 yd).

1.40 m (54") wide fabric: 3 m (3 1/4 yd).

Sizes 18 - 30

1.15 m (45") wide fabric: 3 m (3 1/4 yd).

1.40 m (54") wide fabric: 3 m (3 1/4 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 20 and UK 18 – 30 (approx. UK 6 – 20 and UK 20 – 32, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size charts and finished garment measurements.

This pattern is split into two different blocks. The 6-20 size range is drafted for a B cup. The 18-30 size range is drafted for a D cup.
