Sew Liberated Madrone Pants

Buy the Madrone Pants sewing pattern from Sew Liberated. The Madrone Pants are barrel leg pants, with curved seams providing dramatic yet soft shaping and very
generous ease.

The elastic and drawstring waist provides a comfortable, size-fluctuation-friendly fit. The drawstring ties peek out of the channel at the top of the side panels and are enclosed across the back and side fronts. The front pockets have a curved opening and are set in the seams. The back pockets are set at an angle and provide plenty of room. Topstitched seams give a utility feel, and the hems are finished with an external facing.

Suggested fabrics: Medium weight (4.8-7.9 oz / 155-268 gsm) woven fabric that has no stretch. The drape or hand of the fabric will impact the look of the final garment – softer fabrics will fall more gently, and more stable fabrics will emphasise the leg shaping. Some wonderful choices are sandwashed linen or cotton, light canvas, light twill (like Ventana twill), or Essex cotton-linen blend.

Fabric requirements: Add 0.5 yd (0.5 m) for directional prints or nap.

45" (114 cm) wide fabric: 26" (66 cm) inseam, 3.6 - 4.9 yd (3.3 - 4.5 m) // 28" (71 cm) inseam, 3.7 - 5 yd (3.3 - 4.6 m).

54" (137 cm) wide fabric: 26" (66 cm) inseam, 2.7 - 4.4 yd (2.5 - 4.1 m) // 28" (71 cm) inseam, 2.75 - 4.5 yd (2.5 - 4.1 m).

60" (152 cm) wide fabric: 26" (66 cm) inseam, 2.5 - 3.6 yd (2.3 -  3.3 m) // 28" (71 cm) inseam, 2.6 - 3.7 yd (2.4 - 3.3 m).

Sizing: US 0 – 34 (approx. UK 6/8 – 32/34, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

The pattern is drafted for a height of 5'5" (165 cm).

The Madrone Pants have two inseam length options: 26" (66 cm) and 28" (71 cm). The intended finished hem length is the ankle.

To pick an inseam length, first measure your body inseam to the desired length and subtract 3/8" (1 cm) OR measure the inseam on a pair of pants that you have with a similar fit.

Notions: 0.25 yd (0.25 m) of lightweight fusible interfacing; 2" (5 cm) wide soft waistband elastic, 1 yd (0.9 m) for sizes 0-16 or 1.5 yd (1.4 m) for sizes 18-34; 1-1.75 yd (0.9-1.6 m) of 1/4"- 3/8" (5-10 mm) drawstring cord.
