I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for a paper bag waist so when this was released I snapped it straight up and got to sewing, since then I have made 3 more pairs, each one better than the last.

The instructions are excellent and the construction was super quick and easy, they are a really enjoyable project and it’s fun to see how the elastic shaped the waistband.

This would be the perfect beginner pattern for someone wanting to give trousers making a go because the instructions are so detailed and there are no tricky closures.

I made a pair of shorts and hacked them to have a drawstring closure with no elastic as I wanted some beach shorts and they turned out perfectly. Not only are you provided with loads of options but there are also loads of possibilities for hacking, some of which are included in the MN blog.

To sum up this is a perfect pattern that you will reach for again and again and definitely get your monies worth

Opal trousers - Megan Nielsen

Winner winner, chicken dinner! I love these trousers!!!!!! They're smart looking but it's like I'm wearing pyjamas, they were easy to make and are easy to wear. What more do I need to say? ?‍♀️

I suppose sizing might help? Ok, mine is a size 10. No changes made but I cut the tall leg length even though I'm only 5'6". I guess I like my trousers longer than Megan does. I did cut a bit of excess off again but I'm not sure if it was 1 or 2 inches. The instructions were very good but I wasn't paying that much attention to them, I must admit. This is a definite success story for me and if you want more details, my blog post for them can be found here: https://patsypoomakes.blogspot.com/2021/05/opal%20trousers.html
