Buy the M7838 tops sewing pattern from McCall’s. It’s perfect for an intermediate dressmaker. These loose-fitting button front shirts have a back yoke and length and sleeve variations. B: Wrong side of fabric shows on shaped hemline. C: Button cuffs.

Suggested fabrics: Poplin, crepe, cotton blends, taffeta.

Note: Fabric requirement allows for nap, one-way design or shading. Extra fabric may be needed to match design or for shrinkage.

Pirate Shirts, ahoy!

I fell in love wit the short sleeve version which was a sample at our local fabric store. It was sewn out of floral eyelet and I loved the structural sleeves. If I had simple seen this patten, I would have run screaming with laughter but it's a lovely shirt pattern, well drafted although I would not use taffeta unless you're trying to recall Dynasty/1986. I did two lengths, the white is up-cycled from my linen bedsheets and the mauve is cotton voile. I would use the body and hack any set in sleeve variation again and again...
