Folkwear 150 Unisex Hungarian Szur

Buy the 150 Unisex Hungarian Szur sewing pattern from Folkwear. The szur is a dramatic, mid-calf length coat traditionally worn over the shoulders as a cape and lavishly decorated with cutwork felt appliqué. The geometric shapes of this garment make it an ideal canvas for other handwork techniques, as well as for handwoven fabrics. The pattern includes instructions for traditional and contemporary versions.

View A is the traditional version which includes optional cutwork appliqué, an elaborate buckle closure, and back vent.

View B is a more contemporary version that includes pockets, a lined lapel and collar back, and finished hems on the sleeves and bottom. This view eliminates the appliqué, buckle closure, and vent.

Suggested fabrics: Heavyweight fabrics such as wool, corduroy, or denim. This coat is traditionally made in felted wool with felt appliqués. The appliqué felt should be somewhat heavier and stronger than ordinary craft felt.
