Buy the Mingus Coat sewing pattern from Fibre Mood. Mingus is a coat that will surprise you in more ways than one. The straight front panel flows into a generous scarf that you can drape casually around your neck for a cosy, elegant look. With the matching belt, you can cinch the coat at the waist and decide for yourself how loose or fitted you want to wear it. The detachable sleeves offer extra versatility: with just a few buttons, you can transform Mingus into a sleeveless version in an instant. A coat, a duster and a scarf all in one – Mingus has it all.

Sewing level: Intermediate / Advanced

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics: It's best to choose a fabric that is both warm and supple. Think wool, a soft coat fabric or a supple wool blend that has enough body for the coat, yet drapes nicely for the scarf. You should avoid fabrics that are too stiff or thick, so the scarf sits comfortably around the neck and isn't too bulky. A fabric with two attractive sides is particularly good, as the inside of the scarf will be visible when worn.

Fabric requirements:

Main: 140 cm wide fabric: 517 - 610 cm // Without sleeves, 440 - 535 cm.

Lining: 140 cm wide fabric: 177 - 291 cm // Without sleeves, 144 - 209 cm.

Sizing: XS – XXXL (approx. UK 6 – 28/30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and pattern measurements.

Notions: Iron-on interfacing, max. 130 cm; twelve 15 mm buttons; bias tape (double fold, 4 cm) (see chart).

PDF pattern includes: Step-by-step illustrated instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (129 pages); A0 copy shop pattern (8 sheets) // Layers: Yes // Projector file: Yes.

Note: Seam allowances are included in this pattern. The copy shop file we print for you shows the cutting lines only (not cutting lines and stitching lines) to make it easier to know what size to cut out.
