Buy the Pauline Dress sewing pattern from Closet Core Patterns. Pauline is a true statement dress: dramatic, romantic and loaded with special details. Create truly distinct looks by mixing and matching sleeves and skirt styles to make the Pauline of your dreams.

View A is a chic, sleeveless sheath with a straight skirt that hits just above the knee. View B has a striking puff sleeve in two lengths and a midi-length tiered skirt. Both views feature a unique bodice design that incorporates knife pleats at the waist, a face-framing square neckline and a keyhole opening in the back bodice tied at the nape of the neck. Pauline can be made unlined or fully lined and is closed with an invisible zipper at the centre back.

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following format:

Suggested fabrics:

Main: This pattern can be made with a variety of fabrics depending on the desired effect. For a more structured shape, use light to medium weight wovens such as linen, poplin, seersucker, broadcloth, sateen, chambray or cotton shirtings. For a softer effect, use rayon challis, viscose, tencel, cotton voile or silk.

Lining (optional): Choose lightweight fabrics such as viscose, bemberg, silk, lawn, voile or batiste.

Fabric requirements:

45" (1.14 m) wide fabric: View A: Sizes 0-8 = 2 yd (1.8 m) / Sizes 10-14 = 2.25 yd (2 m) / Sizes 16-20 = 2.5 yd (2.3 m) // View B: Sizes 0-8 = 4 yd (3.7 m) / Sizes 10-12 = 4.25 yd (3.9 m) / Sizes 14-20 = N/A // Lining: Sizes 0-14 = 1.25 yd (1.15 m) / Sizes 16-20 = 1.5 yd (1.4 m).

58" (1.5 m) wide fabric: View A: Sizes 0-8 = 1.5 yd (1.4 m) / Sizes 10-20 = 1.75 yd (1.6 m) // View B: Sizes 0-14 = 3.5 yd (3.2 m) / Sizes 16-20 = 3.75 yd (3.4 m) // Lining: Sizes 0-20 = 1 yd (0.9 m).

Sizing: 0 – 20 (approx. UK 6 – 20, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

This size range is based on a B cup bust with an average height of 5'6". Please note that B cup does not refer to bra sizing, but rather to the difference in inches between high and full bust. A 2" difference between those measurements is equivalent to a B cup.

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing (0.5 yd/0.5 m for 45" wide interfacing); 16"-18" (40-45 cm) invisible zipper; 1/2 yd x 3/8" wide (0.5 m x 10 mm wide) elastic for View B sleeve cuffs // Optional: bias tape.

Note: This pattern is available in an expanded size range on the designer’s website (PDF only).

Romantic Pauline in embroidered crepe

This was definitely the fanciest thing I've made in a while! I tested the 16 D cup version for Closet Core Patterns and decided to make mine from a lovely black embroidered crepe. It was a touch see-through, so I added the lining option (in instructions) and the shorter of the two sleeve lengths - around elbow length. The pattern comes in a B cup US 0-20 and a D cup range from US 14-30.

I have made a few of the Closet Core Patterns extended range patterns and find them a really good fit for my shape - the only exception being that the apex was too high for my bust. This is not an unusual occurrence and I adjusted the dart, which is integrated into the shoulder strap, to accommodate. I also added an inch to the length of the bodice, but that is likely just a "me" adjustment as I'm quite long-bodied.

The instructions are super as always and I believe they're going to put up a sewalong on their website. This is probably an intermediate pattern, which is more what they're known for, but a confident beginner could certainly get good results. I really love the waist shaping, the gorgeous keyhole back and - YES - it even has pockets! A great dress and bang on trend!
