Buy the Morris Pants and Shorts sewing pattern from Christine Haynes. The Morris Pants and Shorts have a high fitted waist, narrow waistband with a button tab, and lapped side zipper. The front is clean and flat, while the back has darts and optional welt pockets with a button closure. The pant legs are slightly tapered and cropped, and are finished at the hem with an optional side split vent. The legs of the shorts are wider and land just above the knee. Both the pants and shorts have the option to temporarily crease the centre of each leg with ironing, or permanently with stitching.

Sewing level: Intermediate

This sewing pattern is available to buy in the following formats:

– PDF (available to download immediately after purchase). What is a PDF?

– PDF pattern + Printed A0 copy shop (We print out the A0 pattern sheets, but you’ll need to download the digital instructions, as we don’t print these. The PDF files will be emailed immediately after purchase, and the A0 pattern sheets will be dispatched next working day). What is Copy Shop?

Note if purchasing copy shop printing: Some of the pattern pieces have been split (to fit on the A0 sheets) and will need to be joined together.

Suggested fabrics: The ideal choices are medium and bottom weight non-stretch woven fabrics. Linen, twill, lightweight canvas, wool, baby wale corduroy, and light to medium weight denim are good options. If you select wool, keep in mind that these are not lined. Lighter fabrics like medium weight crisp shirting and yarn dyed cottons also work well, but will have less structure.

For the welt pocket lining, a lightweight lining fabric is ideal, like bemberg rayon, polyester, silk, or cotton lawn. You want to minimise bulk as much as possible for the pockets.

Fabric requirements:

View A: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 2 3/4 - 3 1/2 yd (2.5 - 3.2 m) // 58" (147 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/2 yd (2.3 m).

View B: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 2 1/2 yd (2.3 m) // 58" (147 cm) wide fabric: 1 3/4 yd (1.6 m).

Pocket lining: 44" (112 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 yd (0.7 m) // 58" (147 cm) wide fabric: 3/4 yd (0.7 m).

Sizing: XS – 4X (approx. UK 6 – 30, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer's size chart and finished garment measurements.

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing; one 10" or longer regular coil non-separating zipper; three 1/2" flat buttons; one trouser hook and eye set. The designer suggests a #3 zipper, as it has a smaller zipper pull. Note the zipper is intentionally too long and will be trimmed in the construction process.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; US letter/A4 print-at-home pattern (45 pages); US copy shop pattern (36" x 88"); A0 copy shop pattern (2 sheets) // Layers: Yes (copy shop only) // Projector file: No.
