The instructions are very clear, however you definitely need to compare the length of this tie compared to a preferred tie, as it came up short on my shortish husband!
The width is determined by the width of the interlining that you use, which is also a handy guide to seeing instantly how wide it will be, as the pattern itself appears much wider with the seam/hem allowances.
