It’s the sixth episode of series 11 and it's children's week!
In the sixth episode of The Great British Sewing Bee series 11, seven remaining contestants are challenged with tackling dungarees, with adaptive fashion designer Victoria Jenkins joining the judges, in the transformation challenge sustainability is key as the sewers repurpose maternity wear into toddler outfits, and in the mini Made-to-Measure challenge the sewers are tasked with creating outfits inspired by what their models want to be when they grow up. For episode five we have put our detective hats on to discover the sewing patterns from independent designers and commercial pattern houses used in Sewing Bee TV show. The patterns below are all matches or inspired by the designs used in the sixth episode of the Great British Sewing bee series 11.
All seven contestants had to make three garments. Take a look at our sewing pattern suggestions below, we’ve tried to find the exact patterns used but where we haven’t been able to, we have plenty of suggestions so that you can recreate these looks at home for your handmade wardrobe. Kate also talks through her favourite pattern options from the episode on YouTube in our special mid-week sewing bee vlog.
Sewing Bee: Pattern Picks
Pattern Challenge 1: Children's adaptive dungarees
The first challenge of the sixth episode was to make children's adaptive dungarees.
Waves and Wild - Heyday Dungarees
The Heyday Dungarees combine comfort with a funky sense of style. This is a relaxed fit dungaree/overall. It has tie straps which don’t need undoing in order to take the garment on and off, and there are FIVE pockets! They are designed to be long and worn rolled at the ankle.
Sizing: 0-3 months - 12 years. Please check the size chart. Available in the shop: Yes, PDF or PDF + printed pattern.
Transformation Challenge 2: maternity wear into toddler play clothes
In the upcycling challenge contestants had to re-imagine maternity wear into toddler outfits. Specific patterns weren’t used for these tasks as contestants had to create a garment from existing materials in a fixed time so it’s a bit tricky for us to make sewing pattern suggestions based on these design ideas.
Made-To-Measure Challenge 3: what I want to be when I grow up
In the last challenge of the sixth episode, all the contestants had to design a mini made-to-measure outfit for a child inspired by what they want to be when they grow up. Here are our pattern picks for the contestants and where sewing patterns have been self drafted or hacked we have suggested an alternative.
