It's the final episode of series 10!

In the final of The Great British Sewing Bee series 10 and it's time to crown Britain's best amateur sewer. Three remaining contestants are challenged with making opera gloves, transforming party paraphernalia into a new party outfit and creating a full outfit by draping on their model. We have put our detective hats on to discover the sewing patterns from independent designers and commercial pattern houses used in Sewing Bee TV show. The patterns below are all matches or inspired by the designs used in the final episode of the Great British Sewing bee series 10. If you haven’t already seen our ultimate guide to the Sewing Bee do take a look.

If you want to chat about the episode and the challenges then do join us each week in our Facebook group event.

Pattern Challenge 1: Opera Gloves

The first challenge of the tenth episode was to make a pair of opera gloves. They only have half a cm seam allowance and curved gussets between the fingers. Each glove is made from just three pattern pieces. Try making a pair for free using this tutorial from Mood fabrics.

Transformation Challenge 2: Party paraphernalia

In the upcycling challenge contestants had to upcycle party paraphernalia into a completely new garment. Specific patterns weren't used for these tasks as contestants had to create a garment from existing materials in a fixed time so it's a bit tricky for us to make sewing pattern suggestions based on these design ideas.

Made-To-Measure Challenge 3: Draping on a model

In the last challenge of the final, all the contestants had to create a full outfit by draping onto their models. Here are our pattern picks for the contestants and where sewing patterns have been self drafted or hacked we have suggested an alternative.

Luke's Monochrome Masc/Femme Gown

Features: Buttoned pleats, tulle ruffles, oversized lapel and angled zip.

Dress pattern: Vogue Patterns V1616. One shoulder dress is close-fitting through bust and fully lined with interfaced partial underlining, boning with self bias covering, invisible side zipper, princess seams, neckline and armhole stays, drape detail, purchased beaded trim at waist, lower edge extending into train and very narrow hems throughout.

Sizing: A5 (6-8-10-12-14), E5 (14-16-18-20-22), approx. UK sizes A5 (4/6 - 10), E5 (10 - 18/20). Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements. Available in the online shop: Yes, paper pattern.

Jacket pattern: Vikisews Nancy Blazer. Nancy is a cropped, semi-fitted, double-breasted blazer with a straight silhouette. The fit is created with the help of bust and waist darts on the front bodice. The back bodice has waist and shoulder darts, and a centre back seam. Nancy has a classic blazer-style collar with a stand. There is a non-functional breast welt pocket on the left side of the front bodice featuring a decorative flap with a folded pocket square look. The back has two decorative tabs of a trapezoid shape. These tabs are inserted into the side seams and fasten with buttons and buttonholes (they can be used to add a more fitted look to the silhouette). Nancy features long, two-piece, set-in sleeves and fastens with buttons. The blazer is fully lined and is 3 - 4 cm (1 1/8" - 1 5/8") below the waistline in length.

Sizing: 34 – 52 (approx. UK 6 – 20, based on our standardised size chart). Please also check the designer’s size chart and finished garment measurements. Available in the online shop: Yes PDF.

Pascha's Hot pink ballgown

Features: pleated shoulders, pleated hip and waist and floor length skirt.

Pattern: Trend Patterns TPC7 Pleated Shoulder Dress. This design was inspired by the big, voluminous sleeves seen on the catwalks in New York, London, Milan and Paris. You can also follow cut lines on the pattern to make a skirt or a top version. There is a waistband pattern provided (you will need elastic for this). The top is a shorter version of the dress with a double turn on the hem.

Sizing: UK 6 - 22. Please check the size chart and finished garment measurements. Available in the online shop: Yes, PDF or PDF + printed copy shop.

Ailsa's 'Scotland with a twist' two-piece
