INDIE OR BIG4?
Indie yaaaaay!
PATTERN?
Gemma shirt from Workshop
PATTERN SIZES?
6-16
PATTERN LEVEL?
Intermeddiate
PDF OR PAPER PATTERN?
WERE THE INSTRUCTIONS CLEAR?
The instructions weren’t as detailed as other indie patterns I’ve used but were adequate if you’re not a beginner. I struggled with inserting the collar and although I made a toile and followed the instructions about snipping in to the seam allowance and making sure you match at the marked point, the collar in the final garment still wasn’t as neat as I would like! Not sure if it was the pattern or me! I’ll make a 3rd and update the blog with my conclusions.
WOULD I DO ANYTHING DIFFERENT?
I would add extra seam allowance as this pattern only includes 1 cm and I don’t think that’s enough to give the hem enough depth or weight, especially if you don’t want to just overlock the edges and instead give them a neat double turn.
I also used french seams to finish the edges, so extra seam allowance would have been useful here too!
GARMENT SIZE?
UK 10
ADJUSTMENTS?
Fit-wise no.
I added extra seam allowance at the dart, as when I sewed my toile, the dart wasn’t long enough to be caught in the seam allowance!
WHAT’S THE FIT LIKE?
One piece sleeve (kimono, magyar or etc). Loose around the arms and snug on the upper hip
FABRICS USED?
A viscose fabric I upcycled from a kimono I’d had for 7 long years!! It was just a cheapo one from ASOS
WOULD I MAKE THIS AGAIN?
Yes, I really like the shape. I used to wear blouses all the time and now I remember why…love them!
