Buy the Ivy Pinafore Dress sewing pattern from Jennifer Lauren Handmade. With two completely different silhouettes – an A-line style tent dress and a slim-fit variation – Ivy transforms the everyday overall into a feminine and comfy garment with an option for everyone. Button-down straps can be functional or stitched in place and topstitching can add a subtle or contrasting detail. Fully lined and with pockets to boot, Ivy is a sturdy little number that is just as at home relaxing on the couch as it is kicking leaves and splashing in puddles. What we think: The variation in silhouette makes this a really versatile pattern. Make it in cotton to wear with a T-shirt in the summer. For winter, why not make a corduroy version to wear with a polo neck top?

Suggested fabrics: The Ivy Pinafore was designed with medium weight fabrics with drape in mind. Pinwale corduroy, denim, duck, jacquard, brocade and drill make a great year-round dress. For winter, snuggle up in wools and velvet.

Use matching lightweight lining.

If inserting pockets, especially for View 2, a lighter weight fabric is recommended for these – cotton poplin, lawn and linen all make lovely, sturdy and lightweight pockets. Or try colourful quilting cotton for a fun and unique detail.

View 1 Lining: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 3.25 – 3.75 m (3.55 – 4.1 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 2 – 2.25 m (2.18 – 2.46 yd).

View 2 Dress: 115 cm (45″) wide fabric: 2.25 – 2.75 m (2.46 – 3 yd) // 150 cm (60″) wide fabric: 1.75 – 2 m (1.91 – 2.18 yd).

Sizing: UK 6 – 24 with A – D cups or UK 16 – 34 with C – F cups. Please check the size charts and finished garment measurements.

Note: There is a crossover of 2 cups (C and D) and 5 sizes (16 – 24) between the Original and Curve size ranges. The Original and Curve patterns are based on two different blocks, and because of this, the shape, ease and proportions of the crossover patterns vary depending on the block used. Please check both size charts if you fall into this range.

To determine your cup size, wear supportive undergarments, then keeping your tape measure parallel to the floor (make sure it is not dipping at the back), measure both your full bust (the widest part of your bust, all the way around) and your high bust (the upper part of your bust around and under the arm pits). Use the difference between these measurements to determine your approximate cup size: A cup = 1 cm (3/8″), B cup = 3 cm (1 1/4″), C cup = 5 cm (2″), D cup = 7.5 cm (3″), E cup = 10 cm (4″), F cup = 12.5 cm (4 7/8″). Then, to determine your bodice size, find your full bust measurement (or closest to) along your corresponding cup row on the size chart.

Ivy is drafted for an average height of 170 cm (5’7″).

Notions: Lightweight fusible interfacing, 55 x 78 cm; 2 buttons, approx. 4 cm (1 5/8″) diameter or smaller; matching and/or contrast thread // Optional: Denim or heavy weight sewing machine needle depending on chosen fabric; lightweight fabric for pockets to reduce bulk/weight around hips.

PDF pattern includes: Instructions; A4/US letter print-at-home pattern (55-77 pages for sizes 6-24 or 64-78 pages for sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the pages for your cup size); A0 copy shop pattern (5 sheets for each view in sizes 6-24 or 5 sheets for each view sizes 16-34, but you only need to print the sheets for your cup size). This pattern has layers so you can select your size(s) before printing.
