My first pair of Gingers, in black. I made View B of the Ginger pattern (High rise skinny leg) and lowered the rise using the instructions on the Closet Case Patterns blog (I think you can buy a mid rise version on its own now). I also shortened the leg by 3 inches, and finally have a pair of jeans that are the perfect length for my 5ft frame! I made these in a size 8 (my normal UK HS is a 10) and didn’t need to make any other alterations.
I used a stretch denim from Splendid Stitch that is beautiful to work with and wear.
I would definitely recommend this pattern – the finished product is good and the instructions are very clear. There are lots of variations that you can do with this too. I enjoyed adding in a pocket stay with some contrast fabric. This was quite an involved make for me, spread out over a couple of weekends. It is also spread out over a couple of blog posts so if you want more details before making your first pair of Gingers there’s a lot more over at http://www.thepetitepassions.com/2017/03/mid-rise-ginger-skinny-jeans-part-1.html and http://www.thepetitepassions.com/2017/03/mid-rise-skinny-ginger-jeans-in-black.html

    Hello everyone!

I made my very first pair of jeans! Hooray! Another #2017makenine project! I’m so so happy about this make! During the past, I was afraid of making them so I kept avoiding them. I thought that I couldn’t make such a pattern because of my lack of experience but mostly because I have’t been brave enough. Of course we all need a bit of experience in order to sew jeans, but truly, we don’t have to be afraid of any kind of patterns.

Pattern instructions – great, really really great! The instructions fantastic and super clear and there’s also the sew-along with tons of photos to make every single step perfectly clear.
Fitting and alterations – I took the hip measurement at my widest point (aka my tushy) instead of my hip, and ended up cutting two sizes larger than needed. I figured this out when I basted all the pieces together to check the fit as recommended in the pattern. I would definitively advise you to do the same, as different denims will behave differently. Apart from this first hitch, the rest of the make went swimingly and I did not make any other change to the A version on size 8. It’s a bit too lose on the waist but other than that it’s perfect.
Fabric – denim with 3% elastane from the local fabric shop (Feira dos Tecidos), for topstitching I used doubled duet thread (50% cotton, 50% polyester), instead of the topstitching thread. I would highly recommend you to find someone to loan you a second sewing machine, you get sick of changing threads each time you’re topstitching really really fast!! For the buttonhole I went back to the single thread, as the doubled thread was a bit too thick. I got all the hardware (jeans button and rivets) from Minerva crafts. The rivets were installed by my boyfriend bc he’s much more handy with a hammer than me.
Difficulty – I’d recommend this pattern to anyone that isn’t afraid of a challenge. The pattern is a lot of work, but every detail is crystal clear.

My take on the Ginger Skinny Jeans…the biggest challenge was getting the fit right, but once nailed, the rest is relatively straight forward. There is a handy guide over on the Closet Case files blog on several fit adjustments – this makes it much easier to diagnose where any unwanted wrinkles and pulling might be coming from! The pattern includes clear instructions for an intermediate sewer and a great way to add new skills to the repertoire. And such a useful pattern to have – especially for those of us that live in jeans. I really enjoyed this project! More details at http://www.missmaudesewing.co.nz/blog/ginger-jeans-pattern-review

This was a fabulous pattern to buy from the great tips on fabric selection to cutting and sewing instructions. The pattern was a super shape and really fitted well. The only negative is say is that I cut the pattern in almost half what the pattern recommends so I really don’t think you need as much fabric as it states. I also did not buy the ebook for the sew a long but if you were a complete beginner you might want to as some parts required so previous knowledge.

These jeans are the first pattern I’ve used to make jeans for myself! They are great. I love the view A with the low (but not to low) rise and stovepipe legs. They are skinny without being skin tight! I used Heather’s sew along to make the jeans, along with the directions and they were super helpful!
