stylish trousers with eye-catching details

TPC12, or the Utility trouser pattern, from Trend are great style to choose if you like unusual details on a garment. Added to that they will expand your skills for making too, a good reason to slow down and make a style which will stretch you, they need some concentration but the result is worth the effort. An intermediate pattern for someone with a variety of sewing experience so far.

I love the hem vents and the fake pocket flap, and you could customise the style by adding an extra flap or leave them off completely, or add a bellows pocket on the leg. Personally I found the fit of my first pair too roomy and the crotch much too long so I made some alterations on the second pair and they are an improvement. That said, they are really comfortable either way.

I wrote a comprehensive blog post on my experience making the TPC12 if you’re interested which you can read at https://wordpress.com/posts/susanyoungsewing.wordpress.com

TPC12//UTILITY TROUSERS review

Strange, cool, functional, stylish: a totally random leg flap and ankle vents I never knew I needed in my life or my trousers. I think this pattern is a bit of a masterpiece! It's one of the most involved and engaging projects I've made in a long time and it really stretched my skills. Trend instructions usually assume a bit of prior knowledge, but I found the instructions for the TPC12 to be really good - I even managed my very first concealed button fly with them!
I really like the quirky design details and the finished fit of the garment and I would definitely make this pattern again and recommend it to others. There's a full review and lots more pictures on my blog: http://www.magnificentthread.com/2019/01/trend-patterns-tpc12-utility-trousers.html
